The City of Regina has begun issuing tickets for failing to make a complete stop before turning right on a red light at one intersection, with a warning period ongoing at two others. This marks the next phase of the expanded Red Light Safety Program, aimed at improving pedestrian safety and reducing right-turn collisions.

As of April 1, 2024, drivers caught failing to stop completely at a red light before turning right at Dewdney Avenue and Lewvan Drive will face a $230 fine. This follows a period of issuing warning notices for the same infraction.

At the other two program locations, Albert Street and Parliament Avenue and Albert Street and Saskatchewan Drive, drivers who make rolling right turns will continue to receive warnings for now. However, full enforcement with ticketing will begin at these intersections in the near future.

The program emphasizes the importance of coming to a complete stop at all red lights and stop signs, especially when turning right. This helps ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists who may be crossing the intersection.

For more information on the Regina Red Light Safety Program, residents can visit the City of Regina website.
